Joshua Bixby recently published a quick unscientific performance comparison of a handful of ASP.NET-based CMS’s. For this comparison, Joshua took a handful of case study web sites from each CMS vendor’s web site and measured the performance of these web pages.
Sitefinity CMS came out on top in this informal comparison:

Uncovering Truthiness
So…the inclination in the CMS industry seems to be to celebrate reports that make you look good and discredit reports that make you look bad. However, I find this practice distasteful. So, I’ll admit that these results should be taken with a grain of salt. In his post, Joshua eloquently describes the considerations for these results:
Now, as I’ve already said, this was a pretty unscientific study — like most studies that take place between 10 pm and 2 am on a Saturday night. In all fairness to the CMS providers I tested, there are a few variables they have no control over, including…Randomness, How the CMS is used, Third-Party content - (more)
We’re obviously pleased that Sitefinity came out on top in this test. However, I will add that I’m still not content with the results. In fact, I agree with Joshua’s statement in his blog post:
Note that none of the sites fared particularly well. The average page load time was 7.45 seconds, which is not blazingly fast by any standard. - (more)
These tests were run against Sitefinity 3.x web sites. We’ve made substantial performance improvements for Sitefinity 4.0. I would expect to see these load times reduced across the board in the months to come. We’re taking performance testing very seriously.
In the meantime, thanks to Joshua for running these tests and posting the results. Sorry for the vendor sniping in the comments. There is an unbelievable amount of FUD that gets tossed around in this industry. I look forward to a follow-up report in a few months. :)
